Catharine Blaine K-8 Waste Audit

This is the sum total of 24 hours of school-wide waste! All 461 students’ worth.
Scale used for weighing each bag. Goal: get a baseline set in order to accomplish our goal of cutting our waste by 30%.
This plastic package and the 1/2 full water bottle above it is considered “contaminated” with just TWO tiny pieces of cereal inside. Plastic must be rinsed in order to be of value to downstream purchasers. Contaminants such as this can contaminate other plastic in the load, and render the entire batch contaminated. Perhaps not two small pieces of cereal as pictured, but you get the idea.
unfortunately, nothing here, with the exception of the coffee sleeve, is recyclable.
